Yet it is remarkable that not only in the Creed but also centuries later a distinction was made between the ascension and the sessio. Bavinck realizes this when he says that the sessio is closely connected with the resurrection and the ascension but yet clearly distinct from them, according to Scripture (Gereformeerde Dogmatiek, III, 439).
